What is a Transaction?
Peripheral and central blocks are anesthesia methods used to control pain during surgical interventions. Peripheral blocks involve the injection of local anesthetics around the nerves to prevent the sensation of pain in certain parts of the body, while central blocks prevent pain by injecting anesthetics into areas of the central nervous system such as the spinal cord. These methods minimize pain during and after surgery.
How is it done?
In our Anesthesiology and Reanimation Clinic in Çiğli, Izmir, the appropriate block method is selected according to the condition of the patients and the characteristics of the surgery to be performed. Peripheral blocks are performed by injecting local anesthetics around the targeted nerves and are generally used in surgeries in areas such as arms and legs. Central blocks are applied to areas close to the spinal cord with epidural or spinal anesthesia methods; these methods are especially preferred in abdominal, waist and leg surgeries. During the procedure, the patient’s comfort and safety are prioritized and necessary monitoring is performed.
What are the Symptoms?
Peripheral and central blocks can be applied in the following cases:
- Pain During Surgery: Preventing pain during surgery and ensuring a comfortable surgical experience.
- Postoperative Pain: Controlling the pain that may occur after surgical intervention.
- Anesthesia Answers: Prevention of low blood pressure or shortness of breath that may occur after anesthesia.
What are the Treatment Methods?
- Peripheral Blocks: Injection of a local anesthetic around the nerve to relieve pain in specific areas.
- Central Blocks: Numbing a larger area of the body with epidural or spinal anesthesia methods applied to the spinal cord.
- Multimodal Analgesia: Providing more effective pain management by combining more than one pain control method.
- Supportive Monitoring: Close monitoring of the patient’s pain level and general condition during and after surgery.
Peripheral and central blocks are reliable anesthesia methods that increase patient comfort and reduce pain during and after surgical procedures.
