What is it?

Colonoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the lining of the large intestine and rectum. It often plays an important role in the early detection of colon cancer and the detection and removal of intestinal polyps. Thanks to colonoscopy, digestive system problems can be detected at an early stage.

How is it done?

Before the procedure, the patient is given a special diet and medication program to cleanse the intestines. A thin, flexible tube called a colonoscope is guided through the rectum. This tube is equipped with a high-resolution camera and light system. During the procedure, the surface of the intestine is examined in detail and, if necessary, polyps are removed or a biopsy is taken. With light sedation, the patient rests comfortably during the procedure. The procedure takes approximately 30-60 minutes.

In which cases is it applied?

  • Cancer Screening: Early detection of colon cancer.
  • Bowel Diseases: To investigate the causes of symptoms such as diarrhea, chronic constipation and rectal bleeding.
  • Polyps and Masses: Detection and removal of abnormal growths in the intestine.
  • Abdominal Pain Investigation of chronic pain for which no specific cause can be found.

What are the Treatment Methods?

During a colonoscopy, not only diagnosis but also treatment can be performed:

  • Removal of polyps
  • Removal of small tumors
  • Stopping bleeding vessels
