What is it?

Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) is an endoscopic procedure used for the early detection and treatment of digestive tract cancers. EMR is applied as a minimally invasive method to remove superficial lesions in the stomach, esophagus and intestine.

How is it done?

The patient is given a mild sedation before the procedure. With the help of an endoscope, the affected area is accessed and the lesion, together with the surrounding mucous tissue, is removed with a special cutting device. The removed tissue is sent to the laboratory for pathologic examination. Other layers of the organ are not damaged during the procedure.

In which cases is it applied?

  • Treatment of early-stage stomach, esophagus and bowel cancers
  • Removal of dysplasia or precancerous lesions
  • Abnormal tissue formations in the digestive tract

What are the Treatment Methods?

  • EMR offers a minimally invasive solution as an alternative to surgery and usually allows the patient to be discharged the same day.
