What is it?

PEG is an endoscopic procedure that allows a feeding tube to be inserted directly into the outer surface of the stomach for patients who cannot be fed by mouth. This method is used in patients who require long-term nutritional support.

How is it done?

The patient is given local anesthesia and the inside of the stomach is visualized using an endoscope. A small incision is made and the tube is inserted into the stomach. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and the patient can be discharged within a few hours.
