What is a Transaction?

Retrograde Intrarenal Surgical System (RIRS) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat kidney stones. In this procedure, a thin and flexible instrument (ureteroscope) is advanced through the urethra (urinary canal) to the kidney. When the kidney is reached, the location and size of the stone is determined by the camera at the end of the ureteroscope. The stone is then broken into small particles using laser energy. These small stone fragments are naturally excreted from the body through urine. Thus, kidney stones are treated without major incisions and without major intervention to the body.

What are the Symptoms?

RIRS is a method used to treat the symptoms of kidney stones. Common symptoms of kidney stones include:

  • Severe Kidney and Side Pain: Intense pain in the side or back that comes in waves.
  • Blood in Urine The color of the urine may be red or pink, or only microscopic blood may be visible.
  • Nausea and vomiting: The pain caused by a kidney stone can cause nausea and vomiting.
  • Pain in the back Pain may be felt in the back, especially in the lumbar region.
  • Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections: Kidney stones can cause frequent urinary tract infections.
  • Burning when urinating: When stones irritate the urinary tract, burning or pain may be felt when urinating.
  • Fever: If infection develops due to kidney stones, fever may occur.

How is it done?

  1. Anesthesia The procedure is usually performed with spinal or epidural anesthesia, meaning the patient remains awake but does not feel pain.
  2. Placement of the Ureteroscope: The ureteroscope, a thin and flexible instrument, is advanced through the urinary tract and the kidney is reached.
  3. Visualization of the Stone: With the camera at the end of the ureteroscope, the location and size of the stone in the kidney are clearly visualized.
  4. Stone Crushing: Using laser energy, the stone is broken into small pieces and removed without harming the body.
  5. Excretion of Stone Particles: The crushed stone particles are naturally excreted through urine after the procedure.

What are the Treatment Methods?

  • RIRS (Retrograde Intrarenal Surgical System): It is an endoscopic surgical method that allows kidney stones to be broken and removed from the body naturally. Since it does not require large incisions, it provides fast recovery and less pain.

This method helps patients recover quickly and return to their daily lives quickly. RIRS is a particularly effective treatment for large and difficult to pass kidney stones.
